Racquetball Racquets

Your racquet is the single most important piece of racquetball equipment that you will use. Ensuring that you have a high quality racquet that fits your needs well is important.

Here are some factors to consider when purchasing your next racquet.

  • The weight. Most racquets vary from 155 to 195 grams. If the racquet is too light for you, it may cause some aching in your arm. Additionally, your shots will not be hit with as much velocity which could hinder your game play. If the racquet is too heavy, you might hit an increased number of mis-hits which will also impair your game.
  • Weight distrubtion. There are 3 different ways that racquets are made. Head heavy, balanced, or head light. A head heavy racquetball will generate more power than a balanced or head light racquet.
  • Racquet features. These include the racquetball string, racquetball grips, and vibration dampeners. These are easily modified so if your favorite racquet doesn’t have the string or grip you prefer, don’t worry, you can alter it.
  • The best way to find the racquet that suits you is to experiment with many different racquets. Ask your fellow players if they would let you hit test their racquet. There are probably representatives in your area for Wilson, Gearbox, Ektelon, and E-force and they would be more than happy to let you test their racquets. The best way to contact them is through the local racquetball association.

If you plan on playing racquetball at least once a week, or even once a month, it is worth the extra money to buy a premium racquet. There is a major difference between a $150 racquet and a $50 dollar racquet. If you play in tournaments you should purchase an additional racquet you can use in case a string snaps of the frame breaks. It would be wise to buy 2 identical racquets.
